Playpex TV

The big-screen app: driven by a remote, with every film and series on your server.

Playpex TV is the app for the computer plugged into your TV. It’s made to be read from the sofa and driven by a remote.

The keys

Key Does
Arrows Move the white focus: along a row, to the next row, out to the menu. In the player they scrub; held, they go faster and the jump happens when you let go.
OK (Enter) Opens what’s in focus: a title, Play, Resume, a subtitle.
Back (Escape) One step back, always: from the player to the title, to the row, to the menu.

A keyboard works the same way, and so does a mouse: pointing moves the focus, a click is OK and a right click is Back.

Who’s watching

Playpex TV opens on Who’s watching?. Each profile has its own watch list, history and resume points; a profile can be locked with a PIN, and a kids profile sees only titles for children. See Profiles.

The sections

  • Movies and Shows: popular, trending and genre rows from the catalog. The poster in focus grows and its story shows above the row.
  • Library: what’s on your server, newest first.
  • My list: the titles you saved and the ones you started, with the minutes left.
  • Search: one on-screen keyboard for titles, people, videos and links.
  • Settings: how big Playpex looks, the picture fitted to your TV’s edges, and whether the server’s dashboard may take the remote.

Plugins can add their own sections to the menu, such as Live TV.

A title’s page

A film’s page shows its story, cast, ratings and films like it, with Play in focus. A series shows its seasons and every episode with its rating. Press Play and see Playing.

Size and screen edges

The first start asks how big Playpex should look, from Small to Largest. Change it later in Settings, where you can also fit the picture to a TV that cuts its edges.
